the wooden cane

a piece of wood... lifeless
but strong and useful

to the young mind... it disciplines
to the aged... it gives strength
to the sightless... it guides

the wooden cane...
lifeless... yet, it cares

*a poem a wrote when after a visit at the church, I met an old couple on my way out... the woman was holding on to his husband, while the man was holding on to his walking stick as he guides his wife...

That's very sweet. Eternal love.

It always touches me when I see old couples still being sweet to each other. It signifies that there are still many existing good relationhsips, but the daily challenges that these couples must have survived. Now I remember Mon Paulino's story.

Hi Jena!

What I didn't mention was that I know the couple personally... they were the parents of the "friend" I referred to in a previous post... ;)

If it takes a lifetime to wait, then let the wooden cane stand still till the time comes when someone arrives to be with you ...in aging.
